There are so many great attractions and experiences to enjoy here, all of which highlight why this area is so incredible. From the Alice Springs Reptile Centre and Alice Springs Desert Park, to the MacDonnell Ranges and Rainbow Valley, these attractions are sure to amaze you and get your trip off to a great start! With brilliant blue skies, seemingly endless horizons, ancient rock art and kangaroos, the drive to Tennant Creek will be a great part of your road trip. Known for its genuine outback feel, the area in and around Tennant Creek is full of rich culture, million-acre cattle stations and incredible sights to see. From the Karlu Karlu Devils Marbles and Davenport Ranges to the Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre and Barkly Tableland, there is something to amaze and delight every traveller in this outback area. With so much to see and do, you’re going to want a relaxing spot to park up for the night. The Tennant Creek Caravan Park is our go-to and features affordable shaded and grassed sites, perfect for your camper.

 A little further than here is The Pebbles where you can take the scenic walking trails along this sacred site, taking in the incredible views of red boulders and native bushland. If you’re after a cooling swim then a trip to Lake Mary Ann is a must! This man-made lake was created to provide a water supply for the local town and has become an ideal picnic, swimming and canoeing spot for locals and visitors. Another night at the Tennant Creek Caravan Park will ensure you feel well rested before the next day of driving to your next stop!

2hr and 11min into the drive you’ll arrive at the Barkly Homestead which is a remote roadhouse that is a welcomed stop for travellers. Not only can you fill up with fuel here, but you can also grab a coffee, some snacks and some beautiful gifts. Once you’ve stretched your legs, it’s time to continue on to Mount Isa which is another 4hr and 46 min drive away. Booking into the Argylla Discovery Holiday Park will ensure you can get there, check in and relax after a long day on the road taking in the outback sights.

From the Riversleigh Fossil Centre and Regional Art Gallery where you can immerse yourself in rich history and culture, to the Outback at Isa bush tucker experience and Hard Times Mine underground tour where you can experience outback life. There is an old underground hospital that invites you to wander through, as well as the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo to marvel at. With so much to see and do, you’re going to want a nice spot to rest at the end of the day in your motorhome so another night at the Argylla Discovery Holiday Park is a must!

The drive will take you along quiet outback roads with some great spots to stop in along the way. One of these stops include the Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton. Here you can learn about the story of Waltzing Matilda, Winton and the outback region. There is a world-class museum to marvel at, an art gallery, as well as an eatery with coffee and delicious food to stock up on. Whilst here in Winton a stop at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs is also a great experience to enjoy. With tours, a museum and dinosaur exhibits, this is sure to amaze the whole family. From here you can continue on the drive to Longreach. Booking into the Longreach Tourist Park will make your arrival into town easy and stress free. Once you’ve set up camp for the night you can take a dip in one of their swimming pools before enjoying a camp meal or BBQ under the stars.

You can visit the Stockman’s Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre for an immersive and interactive experience of this rugged area. There is also the Qantas Founders Museum where you can learn about the founding of Qantas in this world-class museum. Another great experience to be had is a ride on an old stagecoach which will have you feeling as if you truly have stepped back in time. A big day out calls for a relaxing night and the Longreach Tourist Park that will be that oasis for you to get some rest in your campervan.

This drive will be full of beauty, and when you get to Morven there are some great things to do. The Morven Museum invites you to take a step back in time where you’ll learn all about early outback life. Then, The Saddliers Waterhole will be a perfect spot to set up a picnic and relax under the shade of the red river gums that line the shores. After exploring Morven for the day, you’re going to want to find a relaxing spot to park up for the night and the Morven Recreation Park is our go-to. They have basic amenities on offer, as well as peaceful campsites for your motorhome.

Along the way there are some great sights to see including the Spring Bluff Railway Station which is a heritage-listed site that is over 150 years old and is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens. Once you arrive in Toowoomba we recommend taking a well-earned rest at the picturesque Laurel Bank Park to enjoy a picnic in the shade before strolling through the manicured gardens. Then, when it’s time to set up camp, the Toowoomba Freedom Lifestyle Park is the spot to be! With great campsites, as well as a swimming pool, BBQ areas and award-winning gardens, this will feel like an oasis to retreat to.

The Darling Downs Zoo is a must-do for all animal lovers visiting Toowoomba. With free talks, personalised encounters and incredible animals to witness, you’re sure to be amazed at every turn! If you’re looking for a more relaxed experience then simply taking a stroll around town and enjoying a picnic in the park is sure to delight. Then you can head back to your campsite at Toowoomba Freedom Lifestyle Park to relax and unwind after a day of exploring.

From discovering heritage listed parks on a walk and going for a mountain bike ride through the bush, to finding cute laneway cafes, funky art spaces and cool breweries and distilleries, there truly is something for everyone in this town. After all of this exploring, it’s back to the campsite for your final night in Toowoomba.

Once you arrive in Ipswich you can immerse yourself in culture at the Ipswich Art Gallery and learn about the history of the area at the Rail Museum. Nature lovers are going to want to stop in at the Ipswich Nature Centre where you can witness an array of Australian wildlife within lush native landscaped gardens. When it’s time to retire for the night then the Ipswich Caravan Village will be the spot. Nestled within a peaceful bushland setting, close to town, this will be a great spot to park your motorhome for the night.

This drive is only 39 km long and will take around 40 minutes. It will be an easy highway drive that will guide you right into the heart of the city.

 Nature lovers will enjoy visiting the Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens and Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, while art lovers are sure to want to spend hours wandering around the incredible GOMA Gallery of Modern Art. Foodies are bound to find an endless selection of incredible restaurants, bars and cafes, and if you’ve got an extra day, we recommend heading out to the ever-popular Cedar Creek Winery.
