When renting a campervan with Mighty Campers in Australia or New Zealand, it’s important to understand your liability options to ensure peace of mind on the road. Accident liability is the maximum amount you’re responsible for per incident, covering damage to the rental vehicle and third-party property. Below, we outline the liability reduction options available in both countries to help you choose the best coverage for your trip. 

Understanding Liability and Deposits

What is Accident Liability? 

This is the maximum amount you’re responsible for per accident, including damage to the campervan or third-party property. The liability amount depends on the vehicle model and the liability reduction option selected. 

What is the Liability Deposit?

 In Australia, a deposit is required upon vehicle collection, which will be debited from a valid credit or debit card. The amount varies based on the liability reduction option chosen. The deposit is fully refundable if the vehicle is returned on time, to the correct location, undamaged, clean, and with full fuel tanks and gas bottle, provided the card used is Visa or MasterCard. American Express surcharges are non-refundable. In New Zealand, a deposit is not debited, but a credit card authority for the liability amount will be recorded at the time of pick-up. 

Important Note

 If the rental agreement is breached or damage has occurred by not adhering to the applicable exclusions (e.g. water submersion, incorrect use of fuel, driving on restricted roads), you may be responsible for all damages, regardless of the liability option chosen.   • Windscreen & Tyre Protection Cover - One windscreen replacement or up to 3 chip repairs and 2 tyre replacements. Excludes any call out or delivery costs.
  • Extended Roadside Assistance - Includes opening RV on lock out, jump start, flat tyre change (using spare located in the RV), fuel delivery up to 20 litres and call out fee for mechanical-related issues (up to $500.00). Accident-related issues are not covered and guests may be required to take the RV to a repairer).
  • Drop & Go Pack - Includes toilet and grey water emptying for applicable RVs (for bookings dropping off in Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney), exterior cleaning (up to 1 hour), interior cleaning (up to 1 hour), removal of bagged garbage and recycling.

Additional Notes:

  • Credit Card Surcharges: We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

    In Australia, Visa/MasterCard credit and debit cards are subject to a 2% surcharge, with American Express credit and debit cards subject to a 3.1% surcharge.

    In New Zealand, Visa/MasterCard Debit cards are subject to a 2.71% surcharge, Visa/MasterCard Credit cards are subject to a 2.71% surcharge and American Express credit and debit cards subject to a 5.2% surcharge.

  • Exclusions apply:  Any breach of the exclusions or restrictions listed in the rental agreement will render all cover void, regardless of option chosen. Full costs will apply in these cases. Refer to the Rental Agreement for full details.
