Some of our favourite things to do in Adelaide include visiting the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. These lush gardens are home to a wide variety of plants from all over the world. Not only is it a great spot to relax and soak up some nature, it’s also a great free thing to do in Adelaide. If you're into history and exploring abandoned places, the Ship Graveyard is a must-see! You'll find the remains of old ships and boats right on the shore.

Art lovers should stop in at Apy Gallery which is a contemporary Indigenous art gallery that showcases works from artists all over Australia. It's also a great way to learn about Aboriginal culture and support local artists. If you're a book lover, you won't want to miss the State Library. It's home to an impressive collection of books, manuscripts, and other historical documents that are sure to amaze.

Adelaide to Whyalla

Distance 385km - Driving Time 4 Hours 15 Minutes

After discovering the city, it’s time to hit the road and set off on your campervan road trip towards Whyalla. The drive from Adelaide to Whyalla is a lovely drive that takes you through some beautiful Australian landscapes.

Along the way, there are several attractions worth visiting. One of the first stops you should make is at the Wadlata Outback Centre in Port Augusta. This is a great place to learn about the history of the region and the indigenous culture of the Flinders Ranges. Next up is the Australia Arid Lands Botanic Garden, which is also located in Port Augusta. Here, you can explore the unique flora of the arid regions of Australia, including plants that are found nowhere else in the world. Another must-see attraction is the Port Augusta Cultural Centre, where you can learn about the local art and history. Nature lovers should check out the Mount Remarkable National Park which is home to some stunning scenery, including rugged mountains, deep gorges, and beautiful forests.

Whyalla to Tumby Bay

Distance 220km - Driving Time 2 Hours 20 Minutes

After soaking in all the cultural experiences in and around Whyalla, it’s on to the next destination, Tumby Bay. The drive from Whyalla to Tumby Bay is a scenic and enjoyable one, taking you through some beautiful coastal landscapes and charming country towns. As you make your way along the Eyre Highway, you'll pass by the picturesque Spencer Gulf and its sparkling blue waters. One of the must-see attractions along the route is the stunning silo art, which is located just a short drive from Whyalla in the town of Kimba. The towering silos have been transformed into stunning works of art, depicting scenes and images that celebrate the local culture and history of the area.

Once you arrive in Tumby Bay, there are plenty of things to see and do. If you're a fan of the great outdoors, you can take a stroll along the white sand beaches that stretch for miles along the coast. Alternatively, you might like to go fishing or take a dip in the crystal-clear waters of the bay. For those who are interested in history and culture, a visit to the C.L. Alexander Memorial Museum is a must. This fascinating museum showcases the rich heritage of the area, with exhibits that explore everything from the local flora and fauna to the Indigenous history of the region. Of course, no visit to Tumby Bay would be complete without sampling some of the delicious seafood that the region is famous for. Whether you prefer oysters, prawns, or fish and chips, you're sure to find something to tickle your taste buds.

Day 4
Tumby Bay to Coffin Bay

Distance 87km - Driving Time 1 Hour 10 Minutes

The journey continues and next on the road trip itinerary planner is the well-known seaside town of Coffin Bay. To get from Tumby Bay to Coffin Bay, you'll need to travel west along the Lincoln Highway until you reach the turnoff for Coffin Bay Road. Follow that road for about 50 km until you arrive at Coffin Bay. Along the way, you'll enjoy some beautiful coastal scenery.

Once you arrive in Coffin Bay, there are plenty of things to see and do. First and foremost, be sure to check out the Coffin Bay National Park! This stunning park offers a variety of hiking trails and scenic lookout points, as well as opportunities for fishing and birdwatching. Of course, you can't visit Coffin Bay without trying the local oysters. These delicious shellfish are a specialty of the area and are sure to tantalise your taste buds. There are several oyster farms in the area that offer tours and tastings, so be sure to check those out. For a relaxing activity, take a stroll along Long Beach, which stretches for over 20km and offers stunning views of the ocean. There are also several other beaches in the area that are great for swimming and sunbathing.

The Coffin Bay Caravan Park is out go-to when in the area. This park is located right in the heart of town and is the perfect place to base yourself while you explore all that Coffin Bay has to offer.

Day 5
Coffin Bay to Ceduna

Distance 375km - Driving Time 4 Hours

Next up on the road trip itinerary is the picturesque town of Ceduna, and trust us when we say, this is a scenic drive you’ll love!

The drive takes about 4 hours and you'll be passing through some beautiful coastal towns and stunning landscapes along the way. One great spot to stop is Streaky Bay, which is about halfway between Coffin Bay and Ceduna. While here, be sure to check out the Great White Shark replica, which is a local landmark. Then, if you're wanting to cool off, Doctors Beach is a must-visit as it's a beautiful sandy beach that's perfect for swimming.

After refuelling, it’s on to Ceduna which has plenty of things to keep you entertained. The Ceduna Aboriginal Arts & Culture Centre is a fantastic place to learn about the local indigenous culture and art. If you're a golfer, you'll definitely want to check out the world's longest golf course, Nullarbor Links, which is located just outside of Ceduna. And of course, no trip to Ceduna would be complete without a visit to the famous Lake MacDonnell, which is known for its stunning pink salt flats!

Ceduna to Port Lincoln

Distance 403km - Driving Time 4 Hour 15 Minutes

The adventure continues and next stop is the coastal town of Port Lincoln. The drive from Ceduna to Port Lincoln is a scenic and enjoyable experience that will take you approximately 4 hours, during which you'll encounter beautiful coastal landscapes and stunning ocean views.

Once you arrive in Port Lincoln, there are plenty of things to see and do. One of the must-visit attractions is the Lincoln National Park, where you can enjoy a range of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and swimming. The park is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the region, including the picturesque September Beach. For maritime enthusiasts, the Axel Stenross Maritime Museum is a great place to explore. This museum showcases the maritime history of Port Lincoln, with displays of traditional boats, tools, and equipment used by local fishermen. If you're interested in wildlife, a visit to Mikkira Station is highly recommended. Here, you'll be able to see koalas in their natural habitat and even get up close and personal with these cute and cuddly creatures.

Day 7
Port Lincoln to Port Augusta

Distance 342km - Driving Time 3 Hours 40 Minutes

Next it’s on to Port Augusta which promises to be a stunning drive past breathtaking landscapes. We’ve already covered Port Augusta higher in this blog, so this is the perfect opportunity to revisit any of your favourite spots, visit the ones you missed, or take the day to go exploring and find some hidden gems.

Another night at the Shoreline Caravan Park in Whyalla will be a great relaxing stay. You can watch the sunset at the beach, before cooking up a delicious camp dinner in your Mighty Camper.

Day 8
Port Augusta to Adelaide

Distance 309km - Driving Time 3 Hours 20 Minutes

The last day of the trip takes you all the way back to Adelaide, along stunning scenery and through charming towns. Once you get to Adelaide you can stop off at one of the drool-worthy cafes for a bite to eat, before dropping off your camper at the Mighty Camper Adelaide branch.
