Frequently Asked Questions
As New Zealand is made up of two main islands, it will be necessary for you to book a ferry crossing if you are travelling from the North to South Island or vice versa. If you plan on travelling between the North and South Islands of New Zealand, you need to book a ferry directly with a local ferry operator. You will need to have the length of your camper handy to complete your booking. The cost of the ferry will depend on the length of your campervan or motorhome. We recommend that you book well ahead of your holiday, especially if you are travelling during the November to March summer season or over busy events.
On the day of travel, it's best to check-in to the Ferry Terminal around 60 minutes prior to departure when you're crossing with a campervan. It’s super easy, all you have to do is drive on, enjoy the scenic cruise and then drive off. Ferry crossings take approximately three hours with several sailings each day.
